The death penalty was abolished in Virginia in 2021. Since then, the organization Virginians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty (VADP) has made the following statement:

“The VADP board of directors has decided to sunset the organization in February 2024 and rely on its legislative allies to defend our abolition victory in future years.”
