Upcoming Friday Gatherings, Some News from our Clerk

10/4: A Concert with Jim Pell

Dann Pell will be sharing a ministry of music with us on Friday evening Oct. 4.  Potluck at 6pm followed by music.  Free will offering. Here is a message from Dann:

Dear Friends, Thank you for welcoming me to be with you in your worship space, and share my music ministry! I view my music as an opening to the spirit, inviting and uncovering songs to ground and uplift. Drawing from the sacred and traditional through a lens of deep listening. The time is intended to be framed akin to meeting for silent worship. Open to the movement of the spirit, connecting to the silence within, shared and beyond.

** If you would like to get more of a sense of my work please consider viewing this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI57r8FXEJw and related write up https://xpn.org/2024/02/20/dann-pell-kss/

my recorded music can be streamed here dannpell.bandcamp.com **

My intention in sharing is to support the spiritual life of the meeting and connect to the wider community. I hope this time will prove fruitful in unexpected ways.

In Friendship, Dann Pell

10/12 A Conversation Regarding Clerking

Dear Friends: Clerking is an important part of Quaker process both for committees and for the Meeting as a whole. Several of our recent clerks have agreed to hold a couple of sessions about the clerking and committee management processes. We hope that these conversations will ease and empower the hearts and minds of Friends as they consider taking on the clerkship of a committee – or better yet, of the Meeting!   A conversations have been scheduled for Friday 10/12.  We will begin with soup at 6pm, Friends are encouraged to bring a potluck side dish and their questions/insights!

Newcomer’s Potluck Oct. 5

Perspective of Palestinian Quakers Recording Now Available

Quakers for Peace in Palestine and Israel encourages Friends to watch and share their recording, “Building a Just and Lasting Peace: Perspectives and Experiences from Palestinian Quakers.” Palestinian Quakers, Joyce Ajlouny and Walid Mosarsaa, share their experiences with systematic oppression, their perspectives on nonviolent resistance, and a vision for a just and peaceful future in Palestine & Israel. The Ad Hoc group offers the following queries with the recording:

What surprised or moved you the most about what you learned from Ajlouny and Mosarsaa?

Mosarsaa and Ajlouny spoke about Quakerism in terms of speaking truth to power, working for justice, and seeking that of God in everyone. How have you experienced these aspects of Quakerism?

Rufus Jones said, “The pacifist is literally a peace-maker. He is not a passive or negative person who proposes to lie back and do nothing in the face of injustice, unrighteousness and rampant evil. He stands for ‘the fiery positive.’ Pacifism is not a theory; it is a way of life. It is something you are and do.” What then does the Light require of us?

Quakers for Peace in Palestine and Israel is an ad hoc group of Quakers working to bring about a just and lasting peace in Palestine and Israel. Our goal is for Palestinians and Israelis to live in peace with equality and freedom; starting with an immediate ceasefire and full access to humanitarian aid.
